vicente saldanha
I am a multidisciplinary artist working across various mediums.
With a background in architecture, I have devoted much of my career to film,
theatre, and television as a production designer.
Born in southern Brazil, near the border with Uruguay, I left home at a young
age to embark on a transformative journey. At 16, I moved to Porto Alegre,
the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, where I began studying Architecture and
Urbanism. After graduating, I took my first professional steps as a junior
architect in Malta. My path also led me to brief stays in Los Angeles and
New York City, where I participated in a Moving Image Residency at the
School of Visual Arts.
As a traveler and keen observer, I am captivated by diverse landscapes and
the opportunity to meet new people and artists. In my paintings, I aim to
capture the materiality and spirit of urban phenomena, reflecting both their
glories and failures. I depict the ever-changing landscape as a space of
constant upheaval, a vessel of many stories shaped by human presence and
nature. Through my work, I explore the rapid pace of life and the perpetual
tension between progress and decay, revealing the myriad narratives that
shape these environments.
